Hurricane Helene Resources

Greenville, SC – October 3, 2024

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, MTC Federal is committed to standing by our hardworking members and their families as we all navigate the challenges of recovery. Our team has been working diligently to collect local resources and form a plan extend assistance to our members and the surrounding communities who have been impacted by the storm.

At this time, we understand how vital it is to provide access to verifiable resources for those who are in need. It’s equally important to offer accurate information for those looking to donate to relief efforts. With that in mind, we have curated a list of reliable organizations and resources that provide support during these times, and we will continue to keep this list updated as needs evolve.

Emergency & Temporary Shelter:

After a hurricane, it can be incredibly difficult to leave your home and seek shelter, but your safety and well-being are the most important priorities during these challenging times. Shelters provide not only a safe and secure place to stay, but also access to essential resources like food, water, medical care, and emotional support. It’s okay to need help, and seeking shelter can provide the stability and protection you and your loved ones need to start the process of rebuilding after the storm. You're not alone—there are people who care and are ready to help.

Avoiding Disaster Relief Scams

At MTC Federal Credit Union, we want to ensure our members stay safe as our community begins to recover from the impact of Hurricane Helene. Unfortunately, fraudsters often take advantage of disasters to scam individuals who are already facing difficult circumstances. It’s important to remain vigilant during this time.

We have been working diligently with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs to stay alert to new schemes as they present themselves.

Per the SCDCA, scammers may try to reach you by phone, email, text, social media, or even in person, pretending to offer help but with the intent to take advantage. To protect yourself, remember this key rule: Never give out your personal or financial information to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.

Here are additional tips to safeguard your information and money:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited calls or messages asking for personal details.
  • Verify any charitable organizations before donating.
  • Report suspicious activity to the proper authorities immediately.

We’re here to support you through this difficult time. Stay safe, and always prioritize your security when interacting with unknown sources.
