MTC Federal Foundation Announces Additional $36,000 In Donations

As we continue to experience an unprecedented time of health and economic concerns due to the COVID-19 crisis, the MTC Federal Credit Union family of volunteers, members, and employees remain committed to the well being of our communities at large.

The MTC Federal Foundation announces it has donated an additional $20,000 to United Ministries of Greenville, SC and $10,000 to the Grace Center of Southern Oklahoma in Ardmore, OK to assist the needs of these communities impacted by COVID-19.  Funds will be used to aid supplemental assistance in the areas of food insecurity, rent, utilities, medications, and homeless day centers.

In November 2020, the MTC Federal Foundation launched the first Virtual Giving Campaign. With the support of online member donations, the foundation donated $6,000 to local Food Bank organizations. $1,500 to the Wiregrass Area Food Bank in Dothan, AL; $1,500 to the Anderson Emergency Kitchen in Anderson, SC, $1,500 to Harvest Hope in Greenville, SC and $1,500 to Harvest Hope in Lexington, SC.

Impact of April 2020 $35,000 Donation:

"Last spring, when the MTC Federal Foundation granted the Grace Center $10,000, my team put that money to work helping individuals and families directly impacted by COVID-19. Between May 1 - Oct. 31, the Grace Center's COVID-19 Emergency Fund benefited 47 households (impacting 69 adults and 117 children). A third of the households received financial aid to pay rent bills, which reduced the threat of eviction and homelessness. Two-third of the households were provided financial assistance on utility bills preventing utility disconnections, which can be extremely costly for families as they scramble to adjust without the means to meet their basic needs."

-Laura Eastes Akers, Executive Director, Grace Center of Southern Oklahoma

" United Ministries was pleased to receive $25,000 from the MTC Federal Foundation in 2020. This generous gift allowed us to continue what we do best: assisting individuals and families in our community in reaching their self-sufficiency goals and caring for those in need. In 2020, we spent 97% more on direct aid compared to the previous year and increased direct food assistance by 44%. We were able to assist more individuals and provide more assistance for each person in a time when it was desperately needed.

Since March 2020, our staff and programs have adapted to continue providing United Ministries' personalized services. The adult education program completely altered its model and began providing virtual tutoring as well as onsite GED testing – both of which required significant technological upgrades.

The Employment Readiness program has served more individuals seeking jobs this year and has continued to assist in providing support for a full caseload, despite remote work and COVID restrictions. Our Financial Coach has seen a 27% increase in the number of appointments she has held this year.

Our Interfaith Hospitality Network, which provides a dynamic housing continuum for homeless families with children has continued to be able to offer both emergency shelter and interim housing – helping to provide needed stability in a turbulent time."
-Jade Fountain, Director of Mission Advancement , United Ministries
