The MTC Federal Credit Union Foundation is committed to expanding its community footprint by increasing support of causes that benefit Education, Disaster Relief and Local Charities.
The Foundation proudly announces a partnership with United Ministries in Greenville, South Carolina that reflects a record pledge of $30,000.
The donation will fund the Adult Education Scholarship that is to be used to remove financial barriers from adults who are seeking educational opportunities beyond their GED. Whereas students may be eligible for free or reduced tuition, depending on the educational goal they are pursuing, there are many other expenses and financial barriers that limit an adult student, especially a single parent, from completing their education. This scholarship fund would provide assistance with a wide variety of financial barriers so that United Ministries’ participants have the best chance to improve their career opportunities with additional educational attainment.
Examples of how the funds would be used include:
- Program fees related to degree or certification programs
- Materials and supplies needed for the educational program
- Laptops, software, or any technology equipment needed for the educational programs
- Assistance with other financial barriers that may make achieving the educational goal out of reach, such as childcare expenses, transportation expense or any other financial barrier.
“There are many factors that go into achieving and maintaining self-sufficiency, one of which is having employment that pays a living wage. Sometimes earning a living wage requires educational attainment beyond a high school diploma or GED. We believe that participants who are seeking additional education in order to access higher paying jobs, should be empowered to pursue their educational goals. Too often, even attempting additional education is out of reach due to the financial barriers that our participants face. United Ministries’ Adult Education Scholarship fund seeks to remove those financial barriers and provide our participants with the opportunity to pursue goals that they never thought possible.”
– Jennifer Harrill, United Ministries
“This donation is central to our credit union’s great heritage. These funds will help fuel the growth of a larger skilled labor workforce by providing the financial traction they need to live a stronger more successful financial future.”
– Bill Love, CEO, MTC Federal Credit Union
